PHUKET: This year’s annual Phuket Quiksilver Thailand surfing titles will be held at Patong beach from September 21-24, the President of Surfing Thailand, Chanin Aiyaiarak, confirmed today.

The event is moving from Kata, where it has been held for two years, ”because this year’s event will be much larger,” Khun Chanin told Phuketwan.

About 120 surfers from more than 20 countries had already expressed interest and numbers were expected to grow, he said. A concert on the beach was also planned for one evening, he said.

A media conference will be held to announce details in Bangkok on August 25 with a second media gathering on September 1 at Ibis Patong, he said. Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha is to attend the Bangkok conference.

Crowds of up to 3000 are expected to attend the event each day, Khun Chanin said.
